Make a Hand Stitched Purse with Wendy Roby

BOOK NOW

Settle into this evening with some relaxing mark-making to music. We'll be using locally sourced oak gall, turmeric, copper and avocado inks. Learn all about how the inks are made while we use brushes, sponges and found tools to make either a postcard or greetings card. Explore how very simple marks can be combined to make a striking, original design.

We'll then move onto a piece of pre-cut, vegetable-tanned leather. Vegetable tanned leather is incredibly sturdy and the most environmentally friendly form of tanning. It also ages beautifully, developing a really lovely patina. Learn the basics of leather working saddle stitch and finally, we’ll add a Sam Browne stud to make the purse closure.

Along the way, you will get a basic primer on leather working as well as an introduction to natural inks, which can be foraged in the local area.
