March 4 Week Improvers Throwing Course (Wednesdays)
Nailed the basics? Looking to throw bigger and better?
A new course designed for those with experience on the potter's wheel!
Ideal for intermediate participants or those who have previously taken a pottery class and are eager to devlop their skills further. We will have you centering larger amounts of clay, throwing flat ware and larger lidded forms. Build upon existing skills and an array of new techniques.
Prerequisites - Must be comfortabe centering and throwing basic forms. If you are uncertain about your ability levels, either pop in or call for a discussion.
The sessions will run from 6pm - 8pm on the following Wednesdays; 5th March, 12th March, 19th March, 26th March.
Paint a Pot
Hand-paint some hand-made pottery! Purchase pots to paint on the day from £10.
Join us at the Merseyway Workshop, a vibrant high street pottery studio in Stockport, for our relaxing and creative paint-a-pot sessions. Whether you're looking to unwind in a tranquil space or connect with like-minded people, our sessions offer the perfect opportunity to bring your unique designs to life on handcrafted bisque ware, all thrown in-house.
How It Works
Ticket Price: £10 per person (does not include pottery for painting).
Choose Your Piece: A variety of hand-thrown bisqueware - mugs, plates, bowls and vases are available for purchase on the day, with prices starting at £10 per pot.
Your ticket price includes access to a range of colourful glazes and the final firing process.

Come along and join Bruno for an afternoon of making!
With opportunity to make slip-decorated terracotta plant-pots, slipcast seedling trays and ceramic soil dibbers, you’ll be all set for springtime in your garden. No experience needed, just come and experiment with clay!
All creations will be fired and ready to collect 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Pair of Candlesticks!
Join us for an experimental afternoon of design, woodwork and ceramics in this extruded candlestick-making workshop.
You’ll be involved in the process at every stage - designing and creating a die (stencil) from wood, squeeeeeezing clay through the extruder, building gorgeous objects from the extruded clay and slapping on some colour.
You’ll end the session having made a funky pair of candlesticks to take home once we’ve dried, fired and glazed them!
Make a Frame! with Gus Workshop
Join Angus for an afternoon of frame-making. In this workshop you will be presented with a mismatch of gorgeous timber off cuts and odd ends to peruse, curate and assemble into a one-of-a-kind picture frame to take home. Your finished frame will be A5 in size, and complete with glazing and metal fittings for hanging.
No woodwork experience needed, you will be supported as you explore basic woodworking techniques and experiment with composition. Recommended for age 16+
Feel free to bring along a postcard or A5 print to frame on the day!
Design & paint a set of tiles with Hal Haines Studio
Travelling all the way from his studio in East Sussex, Hal will talk you through his practice and share his sketchbooks, focusing on surface decoration, design motifs and ultimately guiding you to design and paint a series of four tiles for you to keep.
Hal’s signature hand-painted tiles have been featured in publications such as Vogue, itsnicethat and Creative Review, and his clients and collaborators include Paul Smith, Burberry, Apple, Soho House, Uniqlo...

Candle Making!
Brighten up your winter afternoons with our relaxed and creative candle-making workshop!
Join us as we transform a stash of leftover ceramics into beautiful, hand-poured candles. You'll get to choose from a variety of unique small ceramic vessels, fill them with luxurious soy wax, and customise them with scents of your choice. We'll guide you through every step, from positioning the wick to pouring the wax, ensuring your candles are functional and beautiful.
Noisy Toys !
Join us for a free, family-friendly workshop where you can create your very own unique instrument—or a wonderfully noisy toy! Using a wide range of recycled materials and everyday household items, craft something special like tin can bongos, rainsticks, or wooden whackers.

Christmas Cats in Clay!
Join artist and studio member Evie for a festive morning of crafting ceramic cats! Immortalise your own cat or create a new feline friend. Very much a relaxed, creative experience. Complimentary mince pies of course, and tea/coffee.
You'll learn some traditional handbuilding techniques, with a focus on rolling slabs, carving, and slip decoration, and have fun shaping and decorating your own ceramic cat. Each participant will create a set of cats that are perfect for displaying at home or gifting during the holidays.
Your finished creations will be ready for collection within three weeks, just in time for Christmas!
Ceramic Christmas Trees!
Join artist and studio member Maz for a festive winter workshop! Come along and learn how to make beautiful Christmas trees from clay — a perfect table centrepiece.
In this fun, hands-on session, you'll explore some traditional handbuilding techniques with a focus on slabs and a spiral cutting process. We’ll dive into slab rolling, with plenty of guidance to help you create something truly unique. You'll pick up useful tips and tricks to get started with clay right away.
Each participant will make a set of 2 trees, decorated with coloured slips.
Your finished pieces will be ready for collection within three weeks, in time for Christmas!
Process Jam
Introducing Process Jam—an exciting new project at the Merseyway Workshop! It’s a weekend of improvisational fun, blending music, art, and craft in a dynamic, free-flowing atmosphere. The studio will transform into a vibrant space of unexpected sounds, striking visuals, and unique creations—a true fusion jam experience!
Join us on Saturday, November 30th for an improvised performance - the culmination of two days of experimentation and collaboration betweeen various musicans, artists and makers.
You will be part of a small intimate audence, experiencing the creation of unqiue audio and visual artwork. Mediums include: saxaphone, ceramics, percussion, paint, synthesizers, woodwork and everything inbetween...

Join artist and studio member Josie for an evening of crafting, sculpting, and decorating your own set of Christmas baubles! In this creative workshop, you’ll learn traditional handbuilding techniques, focusing on pinch pots, carving, and slip decoration.
Each participant will create a unique set of linked baubles—a beautiful, handcrafted piece to hang on your tree or display elsewhere.

Join artist and studio member Lily, for our first festive workshop! Come along amd learn how to make a beautifully marbled mug — perfect for sipping Bailey's hot chocolate on Christmas Day or as a thoughtful gift for someone special.

Kintsugi Workshop!
Discover the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi or “gold joinery” with artist Emily Thomas, and create/repair a beautiful ceramic piece to take home. You'll learn all about the art and replicate the ancient techniques with contemporary materials.
You will repair a small antique dish - these are unique objects and will vary depending on what can be sourced. A selection of ceramic pieces will be available to choose from on the day.

Did you know... More than 8 million pumpkins in the UK will head to the food waste this year, some left in a front porch to decompose for a while longer and really scare off your neighbours! (That's a whole lotta pumpkin pie!)

Ceramic Ghost Making!
Get into the spooky spirit with a morning of ghost making - with clay!
Open to all experience levels. In this fun, hands-on session, you’ll craft your own unique ceramic ghosts using a variety of hand-building techniques. Perfect for adding a touch of Halloween charm to your home!

Jesmonite is a gypsum based, eco-friendly material . During this workshop you will design, cast, sand and finish your very own jewellwey pieces. You'll learn how to weigh it, mix it, add various colours and terrazzo effects to create something unique.
We will have a range of earring and necklace molds to choose from on the day.

Join us for a morning of cyanotype printing with artist Kat Wood!
This interactive workshop welcomes creatives of all skill levels to explore the art of cyanotypes, an alternative photographic technique that creates striking blue-and-white prints.
We'll be using tools and materials from the workshop to create unique prints on aprons, which you can take home for more crafting!
Jesmonite Casting Workshop!
Join us for this evening of crafting and casting with Calico Collective!
During this workshop you will design, cast, sand and finish your very own jesmonite homeware piece in a stunning terazzo effect.
We will have a nice range of moulds to choose from on the day, including a small planter, soap dish, coasters, trinket tray etc.

Lamp Making Workshop!
In this workshop you design and make your very own lamp!
Using clay, you will sculpt and form the base into a desired shape, picking up some essential handbuilding tips along the way. The fixtures and fittings will be on hand to ensure everything goes together nicely.
We'll be using a variety of coloured slips and mark-making techniques to decorate the bases. Once bisque fired, each vase base will be dipped in clear glaze for the glossy finish!
All fixtures, cables and bulbs are supplied.
Hobbit Stools!
Learn how to make a simple 3 legged stool!
A fun evening of woodwork, with plenty of shavings, drills, hammers and eventually, sitting...
You will be guided through each stage of the process from choosing timber, trimming and shaving the stool legs, shaping the seat, and drilling holes before assembling your very own stool to take home!
All materials and fun provided!
Chippy Tea - Plate Making Workshop!
Who doesn't love a chippy tea? In this class you’ll be slab rolling and forming clay into a beautiful plate, perfect for fish and chips! Using a variety of methods such as slab, pinching and forming you'll create simple, or more unusual shapes that clay can produce.
You will each be able to make one large plate. Once the forms are built, you will be applying decorative slip. All the plates will then be left to dry, bisque fired, then dipped in a clear shiny glaze before final firing. Your finished pieces will be ready x3 weeks after the workshop date.
Ceramic Plant Labels!
A FUN, FREE and family friendly activity, suitable for children aged 7-11.
Have you seen all the plants growing in our garden?! Do you want to know the name of them all, how to grow them and what insects and bugs they attract?
In this workshop we will be hand building some ceramic name tags to identify all the plants in our garden. You will learn about the plants as we go and how they contribute to the biodiversity of our town centre!
Hola Ollas!
Come along to this social and informative workshop and make your own ollas! Ollas (pronounced “oy-yahs”) are bottle shaped unglazed terracotta pots that are buried in the ground with the neck exposed above the soil surface. Filled with water these help with sub-surface irrigation of plants.
Learn about this ancient irrigation method, thought to have been developed over 4000 years ago!
In this workshop we will demonstrate the working properties of ollas learn how to make your own out of simple garden centre/recycled household objects.
Taking inspiration from the garden, we will decorate and print on your new olla.
